In January, I had the privilege of attending Branches & Light, a photography workshop led by the amazing and talented, genuine and humble Nancy Ray and Caroline Joy. What a wonderful opportunity to soak up the wisdom and experience of these ladies as well as the other attendees. As I look back, that day seems almost dreamlike—Nancy and Caroline walking us through overcoming fears, setting goals, branding, and so much more, all as a gentle Austin breeze drifted through the open windows of the charming Winfield Inn.
I'm grateful for the ways they pushed us to examine our vision, our challenges, and to begin to chart the growth we hope to see in the next month, year, and future of our businesses.
They put together an incredible styled shoot for us to practice with, complete with models and set against a romantic tree-lined backdrop.
I learned so much from my fellow attendees and loved hearing some of their stories throughout the day. I'm grateful to have a resource in these women and hope to be a resource to others in the future.
I have always loved the Marianne Williamson quote above, and my heart swelled with recognition when it was mentioned during a session at B&L. It is truly a mantra to remind us all to find that which captures our hearts and brings us great joy—and find a way to share it with others that they might be liberated to shine their own light.
As Frederick Buechner wrote, "The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet." I believe part of that calling for me involves connecting with others in an authentic way that shows through my work—capturing them in such a way that when those who know them see my photographs, they will smile with recognition at the spark in their loved ones' eyes.
I can't wait to see what this year has in store for Lenspired Photography!
